Bichon Havanese is small, hardy toy dogs that makes them great family dog. The average life span is 14 to 15 years. Bichon Havanese stands excellent for those, who have allergies. The epicenter of this breed is Cuba and owned by aristocratice families during 18th and 19th century. The height ranges between 8.5 to 11.5 inches, dark-brown eyes, a black nose and black lips along with long hair tail curl back. The skin coat of Bichon Havanese is soft, double, long and wavy. You can treat these allergies with antihistamines along with some steroids in severe cases. In addition, some bichon's need ant-allergic injections or hypoallergenic diets. Every dog is at risk to develop dental health issues if hygiene not maintained. Bichon, like other dogs seem to develop dental health issues often. The common disease observed is gingivitis (inflammation of gums). This inflammation can lead to intestinal infection due to the bacteria formation. These bacteria are likely to enter into the blood stream. Here, pulse therapy is an excellent antidote to arrest the disease. In this therapy, antibiotics administered for five days a month to control the spread of infection. To avoid this situation, brush your dog's teeth once a day and have dental cleanings through the professional vet.

Patellar Luxation is another worry in Bichon Havanese. This disease formation takes place due to loose or strained ligaments around the knee that can torn over a period. Some common symptoms include limping, favoring one leg over another, skipping and unstable posture. If you find any of these observations, refer your pet to the vet immediately. With bit of extra care, Havanese would be the right choice for your family and children.
