Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
The cavemen era is usually associated with images of long hair and animal skins; but the prehistoric times had more to offer than just that. Our ancestors in the Paleolithic era followed a specific diet, consisting mainly of meat, fruits and vegetables. The Paleo diet focuses on just this eating the way our ancestors did.
In the ancient times, processed foods did not exist. They had to go out and hunt for their next meal, which often involved long periods of walking or jogging. They also had to relocate often, going where food is more abundant. This means that the cavemen had to be very fit and healthy, so what type of diet did they follow to support their needs?
The Paleo Diet is one of the oldest diets available. It is based on food sources such as meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. They did not have access to any processed meals or fast foods; so naturally we should avoid that as well. The same goes for dairy products and wheat; these were not available in those times and only came into account about 10,000 years ago. It is no wonder why so many people are struggling with food allergies and digestive problems. Our bodies still carry the generic memory of those times and our digestive systems have not yet adapted to these foods.
When avoiding dairy, you would need to eliminate foods such as butter, cheese, ice cream and yoghurt. You should also avoid all grain and wheat products; such as breads, cereals, rice and pasta. This does not mean that you will have nothing to eat though; the Paleo diet is packed with protein, fruit and veggies. You can combine various items to make delicious meals and you can also snack on healthy nuts and seeds. This will increase your intake of healthy fats, which are essential to your body.
When choosing the correct foods for this diet, remember to stay as natural as possible. Try to obtain meat cuts from animals that have been grass or pasture fed; as opposed to ones that were pumped full of hormones. These were not available to the cavemen and you should not consume it either. Lean cts of meat such as lean pork, sirloin and steak are perfect. Poultry sources can include chicken breast meat and turkey. In general, they should not contain more than 7% fat. The only exception is eggs; try to consume no more than 5 to 6 eggs per week.
The Paleo Diet allows you to eat like a caveman; consuming sufficient protein, vitamins and minerals to support a healthy body. You will also naturally increase your metabolism and improve your digestive system; reducing hunger pangs and increasing your energy levels. Your blood sugar levels will also stabilize; by eating a lot of fruits and vegetables. The Paleo diet is really a great option for anyone wanting to improve their health and lose additional weight.
