Hello visitor! Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
A report from the US National Institute of Health stated that approximately 300 new cases of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) are diagnosed in the United States every year. The report also claimed that the greatest numbers of PPH cases were reported in women aged between 21 and 40. PPH is a rare lung disorder in which the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery rises much higher than the normal levels. Adcirca (or tadalafil) is an FDA-approved medicine used for the treatment of multiple forms of PPH or Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) The drug is a prescription medicine and its safety or effectiveness in treating children is not known.
Causes of PAH and Role of Adcirca
Adcirca is said to improve the exercise ability in WHO Group I PAH patients which include those diagnosed with idiopathic and familial PAH and PAH associated with Scleroderma and Congential heart disease. Pulmonary hypertension can be caused by several factors, such as:
A condition that causes chronic low oxygen levels in the blood
Diseases such as scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis that can damage the lungs
Birth defects related to heart
Certain diet medications
Congestive heart failure
History of a blood clot in the lungs
HIV Injection
Lung or heart valve disease
Obstructive sleep apnea
Blockage in the veins of your lungs, known as pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD)
If the cause of the problem cannot be identified, the condition is known as idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Adcirca works to widen the blood vessels in the patient's lungs, thus, allowing them to carry oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. As a result, the heart and the lungs no longer have to work hard. This improves the patient's ability to exercise.
